California State University scientists have recently carried out a research into the latest 3D viewing experience. The study involved four hundred students watching one of a selection of films in either 2D or 3D, and then asking them to rate various aspects of their viewing experiences. The results of which have led them to the following conclusion; watching 3D movies has perhaps been overhyped in the media. Previously, it has been suggested that watching 3-dimensional movies is a mind blowing experience, allowing the viewer to have a very realistic a sense of being immersed in part of the action, however there is much debate over the difference between 2d and 3d viewing.
Various subjects were tested and the examinations showed that only some were more emotionally influenced by what they were viewing on the screen. Some complained about the discomfort of having to wear the 3D glasses, and debated whether or not the extra interaction was worth the inconvenience of wearing the glasses. Also it was discovered that people viewing 3D content were three times more likely to endure headaches, eye strain and blurred vision during viewing than those who watched 2D content on a standard Cheap LED TV.
However we cannot escape the truly sensational benefits of the 3D experience; it simulates a cinema experience because of the big screen effect, they come with lightweight 3D glasses that are affordable, you can upgrade to single DLP projectors that utilize Active 3D-based system.
New technologies have brought us some of the most remarkable tools to enjoy media, but have they gone too far as to cause us discomfort? The debate is ongoing and differentiates person to person. We can draw from this study that, innovative inventions in viewing are nothing less than astounding but do they come at a price, decide for yourself and compare the difference between 3D and the common 2D viewing.
