Gone are the days in which people actually watch TV shows normally. Well, by normal, we mean actually having to wait a week in between episodes.
With the rise of streaming websites such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, it’s clear that ‘binge watching’ television shows has become the new normal.
With that in mind, here are 4 shows that you should definitely be streaming right now!
Jessica Jones (Netflix)
Marvel has done it again when it comes to putting amazing TV right onto our favourite streaming website Netflix. Jessica Jones is the latest TV instalment in the MCU, coming off the back of the hit TV show Daredevil.
Krysten Ritter stars as the title character, a former superhero that opens up a detective agency after a violent end to her superhero career. David Tennant is amazing as the villain of the series Kilgrave – giving a performance that is both brilliant and terrifying. The series also introduces Mike Colter as Luke Cage – another Marvel superhero who has his own show appearing on Netflix next year.
It’s dark, it’s funny, it’s sad, and it’s definitely worth a watch.
Mr. Robot (Amazon Prime)
Elliot Alderson is a security engineer who works for cyber security company in NYC. Struggling with paranoia and anxiety, he finds connections with people by hacking them, becoming some kind of a cyber-vigilante. He gets recruited by a mysterious figure called ‘Mr Robot’ and ends up joining his group of ‘hacktivists.’ He soon finds himself tasked with bringing down his own company.
It’s been described as having an ‘intriguing’ and ‘provocative’ premise, and was actually renewed for a second season before the first one even aired.
The Man in the High Castle (Amazon Prime)
Amazon have slowly been catching up to Netflix when it comes to good quality shows, and this is definitely evident after watching The Man in the High Castle. The first episode of the show debuted back in January of this year, and the show soon topped Amazon’s most watched list.
Based on a novel by Frank Spotniz, the show is set in an alternate reality. What if the allied powers lost WWII? What if Germany and Japan ruled the USA? It follows people living in America under these circumstances.
This is a brilliant show for those who love dystopian movies, as well as the history buffs who don’t mind looking at history in a brand new but exciting way.
Bloodline (Netflix)
Focusing on a family who own and run a beachside hotel in Florida, the show depicts the return of Danny, the oldest son and black sheep of the family. His return causes quite a lot of problems – opening up old scars and revealing long buried secrets. Danny is soon caught up in the criminal world which threatens to hurt his family and ruin their legacy.
The show has received positive and strong reviews from critics – some naming it their favourite new show. It’s been renewed for a second season which is to air next year.
