It has been announced recently by the BBC that the one off special 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who, which will hit our screens on the 23rd November, will for the first time ever be simultaneously be broadcast in both 2D and 3D in at least 75 countries across the world.
This comes as the availability of cheap TVs is increasing, meaning the incredible 3D viewing experience is increasingly accessible and affordable to the average family, not only here in the UK, but across the world.
Doctor Who is widely celebrated as the longest running and most successful sci-fi series in the world, and is viewed in countless different countries, across 6 continents.
Tens of millions of people are expected to tune in on November 23rd for the episode which has spurred rumours for the last few months about guest appearances and possible plot lines. It has already been announced that the episode is to be entitled ‘The Day of the Doctor’, and as well as featuring the current doctor and his companion, will guest star the former time lords David Tennant and John Hurt, as well as Billie Piper.
It has been reported that the number of countries currently signed up to broadcast the episode in both 3D and 2D simultaneously with the UK, including Columbia, Canada, Germany, Botswana and Myanmar, and this number is expected to grow this month, as TV broadcasters in additional countries are showing interest in the monumental occasion.
The fact that the episode will be screened in 3D across the world is a significant sign that 3D really has taken off globally, and is a common feature in a continuously increasing number of households, both in the UK and around the world.
