3 Classic Movies You Have to See

Many movies that are released now seem to be re-boots of already successful franchises, such as Spiderman and Superman. It is also rumoured that Robocop and The Terminator are getting revamped. It makes good business sense to do this because old fans will (reluctantly) watch to see how the new film holds up against the original, and they will bring with them a generation of new viewers. Even though it makes business sense, there seems to be something lost in terms of artistic innovation as Hollywood generally churns out basically the same movie (with a few exceptions).

If you want to watch a movie that is exciting and above all original, then you may have to go back a few decades and consider watching one of these classics:

Shawshank Redemption

Based on a Stephen King novel, the film is about Andy Dufresne, a banker who spends years in Shawshank State Prison for the murder of his wife and her lover despite his claims of innocence. At the heart of it, it is a story about finding solace and redemption through acts of decency.  Although this move wasn’t a big box office hit, it received numerous accolades and 7 Academy Awards.

Pulp Fiction

Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, this movie is based around 4 tales of violence and redemption. With a breathtaking performance from Samuel L Jackson and the comeback performance of John Travolta, you won’t fail to be impressed by their acting capabilities. Each of the tales are funny, entertaining, well plotted and violent.

Godfather

This is considered by many to be the best movie of all time. Based on the novel by Mario Puzo, the film is about the aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty who transfers control of his empire to his reluctant son. It has an all star cast including Al Pacino, Marlon Brando and Diane Keaton. It was, for a time, the highest grossing movie ever made and won 3 academy awards.
