For Your Eyes Only: James Bond WILL Return

After literally years of speculation – two, to be precise, since 2012 – reporters gathered inside the 007 Studio at Pinewood Studios for the reveal of the 24th James Bond production. And boy, were they in for a treat. Tons of secrets were revealed, including the cast, the car and, of course, the all important title. It might not be a very Bondian-style name for the film, but aficionados will immediately recognise the word: SPECTRE.

That should strike fear into the heart of any Bond fan because SPECTRE is the name of an organisation bent on world-domination. Standing for Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, it’s headed by perhaps 007’s most infamous villain – Blofeld. At the press conference, however, there was no word on whether the biggest, baddest bad guy of them all will actually appear in the film.

Live and Let Die

Instead, we were presented with the latest villain, Oberhauser, played by Django Unchained’s Christoph Waltz. And every top dog needs a bruising henchman to back him up, right? Enter former wrestling star David Bautista who will play Hinx. According to a casting call put out by Eon Productions, he’ll have several fights with Bond – well, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Property of a Lady

It wouldn’t be a Bond film without a lovely lady or two – and hey, SPECTRE’s no different. The stunning Naomie Harris reprises her role as Miss Moneypeny, while French actress Lea Seydoux will star as Madeline Swann and Lucia Sciarra will be played by Italian belle Monica Bellucci. As usual with Bond films, one of these will be the angel, the other the devil. Our money’s on Bellucci being the one to try to kill the international super spy – but since the Bond reboot back in 2006, these things can be tough to call.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Of course it’s Daniel Craig who makes the biggest impact – returning for his fourth outing as intelligence officer Commander James Bond 007, to give him his full, and well-earned title. Other favourites such as Ralph Fiennes’ M and Ben Whishaw as Q will be coming back. As will Bill Tanner, played by the ever-excellent Rory Kinnear.  They’ll be joined by newcomer Andrew Scott as Denbigh – fans of Sherlock will recognise this chap as the vicious Mortiarty in the BBC series. According the reveal, he’ll work for MI6’s homeland counterpart, MI5 – but is it just a front? Many of the behind-the-scenes talent return to the fold too. After the awesome success of Skyfall director Sam Mendes is back on board, along with writers John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. And in front of the camera – yep, the Aston Martin returns, this time the latest model, DB10. As after the Heineken debacle in which Bond drank beer, he’ll be back on the vodka martinis after a partnership with Belvedere vodka.

From a View to a Kill

Filming has already begun – and we couldn’t be more excited! Already there’s been a steady stream of on-set shots, including Daniel Craig and Rory Kinnear travelling by speedboat along the Thames outside the famous MI6 building. This comes hot on the heels of both a clapperboard shot, and the reveal of Bond’s new apartment in the film. For those who don’t want to know the basic – oh-so-very-basic – plot, look away now. According to Eon, ‘A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.’ Exciting stuff, which just makes us wish away the year until October 23rd 2015 – the film’s UK release date.
