Here in Britain we’re no strangers to weird TV shows, and there are a number of series out there that make you question just what those TV execs are thinking. However, if you though Geordie Shore was weird, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Here, we take a look at some of the weirdest TV shows ever made, from around the world.
Don’t Laugh Japan
As the name of this quirky Japanese game show suggests, the goal for contestants is quite simple…don’t laugh. Participants on the show are shown a variety of funny clips designed to push their self control to the limit, and there’s only really one rule: you laugh, you lose.
Whilst this might all sound like a bit of a laugh, any contestant showing the slightest hint of a giggle receives a beating with a stick!
Man vs Beast
Another rather kooky creation is the American reality TV series Man vs Beast, which offers a rather unique twist on the reality TV genre. This show literally pitted man against beast in a variety of challenges, including a hot dog eating competition between a professional eater and a bear, and a 100 metre race between a world class sprinter and a giraffe.
Unsurprisingly, this downright weird show came under heavy attack from critics and animals rights groups and ran for only 2 series. Perhaps what’s most strange about this TV series is that it even made it to air in the first place!
Bridalplasty
Every bride wants to look beautiful on their big day, right? Unfortunately, one American TV network took this idea a little too far, coming up with the bizarre concept of a TV show in which a number of brides-to-be fight it out to win transformative plastic surgery. The show’s ratings were just about as appalling as its premise, and it wasn’t a huge surprise when it was canned after only one season.
Armed and Famous
We all know celebrities can act a little crazy sometimes. However, despite this, one TV network came up with the bright idea of a new show in which a host of celebs were armed with guns and given roles as police officers. Unsurprisingly, the celebs made for bad police officers and even worse entertainment, and the show was pulled after only 4 episodes.
It’s TV shows like these that remind us what a weird and wonderful place the television world can be.
