The infamous vuvuzela horns that football fans are using in South Africa to show their enthusiasm for the World Cup are attracting quite a lot of attention in the press lately. It seems that the horns, that are capable of producing noise upwards of 130db are irritating more people than just those who have to put up with them in the stadium. The noise of these horns is being broadcast across the world and is reportedly spoiling the enjoyment of the tournament for a huge number of people.
The BBC alone received over 500 complaints about the sound of the horns during one match so steps are being taken to try and reduce the irritation. They’ll soon be banned from the stadiums where the matches are taking place, but for the mean time there are various solutions being put forward. An MP3 file that plays a sound at a precise pitch which is supposed to eliminate the sound of the vuvuzela horns is available to download at a cost. The BBC is also implementing its own solution, broadcasts of the match that have had the sound of the horns removed, although it’s argued that this might affect the sound of the commentary. This is proving particularly annoying to those who have recently invested in new cheap LCD TVs to watch the World Cup, only to have matches constantly interrupted by the noisy horns.
But, don’t let the sound of the horns put you off enjoying the matches on TV just yet. There are plenty of cheap LCD TVs being offered at bargain prices by electronic retailers who are expecting a boom in sales during the world cup, so this is the best time to invest in a new cheap LCD TV, although you might want to keep the volume turned down until the horns are banned from the stadium.
