My Cart - Now, we know that the kids have not long been back in school, but don’t get too comfortable; it won’t be long until they get another week off and spend all day running around the house looking for entertainment! The Lego Movie
Featuring the most ridiculously star-studded cast you could think of with names such as Channing Tatum, Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell and Elizabeth Banks, you’ll find half your fun in trying to figure out where you know that voice from. It’s actually a pretty great storyline and has jokes that will have you laughing just as much as the kids. If that doesn’t sway you, watching Liam Neeson as a lego character will!
Shrek
The first film about everyone’s favourite Ogre was released 14 years ago. Once you’ve managed to wrap your head around that terrifying fact, pop it in the DVD player and enjoy 90 minutes of peace and quiet from the kids while you laugh along at the jokes they’re not quite old enough to understand yet!
The Princess Bride
This movie was probably part of your childhood, and just as the grandfather did, now you can pass the story onto the next generation. This is the classic fairytale that features a beautiful princess in distress, an evil prince, a hero, giants and rodents of unusual size. What more could you ask for? The best thing is that there’s something there for everyone, so whether your kids are into princess fairytales or action-packed sword fights, The Princess Bride has it all.
Toy Story
If you were distressed by the realisation that Shrek was released 14 years ago, you’re not going to like this fact. The first of the Toy Story series was released 20 years ago so you were probably watching this when you were young. This film will provide plenty of laughs for both you and the kids and you’ll be able to reminisce about simpler times when your biggest worry was which pencil case to buy!

If you can get past the opening scene without dissolving into a blubbering mess, you’ll love the rest of this movie, as will the kids! There’s plenty of heart-warming stuff in it that will leave you feeling like you’ve watched something designed for the older generation, but there’s also plenty of jokes, bright colours and sounds to keep the kids occupied so you can all watch it in peace.
The Lion King
To be honest, you could probably pick any of the classic Disney films – if you’re anything like us, you would enjoy watching these on your own anyway! But if you feel like you need an excuse, then grab the kids and sit them down in front of the telly box for some Disney viewing.
