There’s nothing quite like the utter devastation when your favourite TV show is cancelled – we’ve all been there!
In today’s cut throat TV world, TV shows are getting the axe left right and centre – sometimes this is good thing, and sometimes it’s a little surprising. But every now and again- in what can only be described as a moment of insanity- TV bosses make a move that none of us saw coming and cancel a much- loved show that we all thought would stay safe.
With this in mind, here in the second part in our series on TV Shows That Ended Way Too Soon, we’re going to take a look at some more hit shows that were cancelled way before their time.
Terra Nova
As the recent success of Jurassic World has shown people love dinosaurs – fact. But that didn’t stop TV executives from making Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur drama Terra Nova extinct after only one season.
When this ambitious series first came to our screens it promised great things. But as is often the case, with great anticipation comes the potential for even greater disappointment!
Admittedly the series got off to a bit of a shaky start, and the overarching plot line was perhaps a little too ambitious. But that said, by the closing hours of the series the show was finally starting to come into its own- and things were getting really interesting.
Well, that was until the network pulled the plug and announced that they were not planning to produce a second season. To say that fans of the show were disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover it!
Malcolm in the Middle
Ok, so technically speaking this show ran for seven season, which is pretty impressive for a TV show in today’s world. But as far as we – and many others – are concerned, you could never have enough episodes of Malcolm in the Middle!
From 2000 to 2006 Malcolm and his dysfunctional family treated audiences across the world to countless laughs and we’re sure the show would have brought us many more too, had it kept running.
The show retained a loyal fan base from start to finish and took home many awards too including seven Emmy awards, which begs the question as to why was it ever cancelled?! We’re sure this is a riddle that even child genius Malcolm himself couldn’t solve!
My So Called Life
This classic show was a breath of fresh air compared to the usual run of the mill teen dramas, and featured an all star cast including the likes of a young Claire Danes and Jared Leto.
But unfortunately the show, which ran between 1994 – 1995, was cancelled after only one season, and its potential was never fully realised. The popularity of Friends and Danes’ decision to turn her talents to the big screen are all thought to have been contributing factors. But this hasn’t kept fans from dreaming of what might have been!
