People talk a lot about TV shows ending too soon or how frustrating it is when shows get cancelled during a really good season. We’ve all been disappointed or upset when one our favourite shows go off air.
On the other hand, have you ever been frustrated with a TV show that really should of ended when it was still good? These are the shows that had some amazing seasons but as time went on, they started to drop in quality?
Sure we still watched these shows but we secretly pined for the early days. Here are our pick of shows that probably should have exited a lot earlier than they did.
True Blood
The earlier seasons of True Blood were a-m-a-z-i-n-g. They constantly kept us gripped to the TV, we were frequently shocked and surprised, and we actually cared about who Sookie was going to end up with (Team Eric obviously).
We’re not entirely sure when the show stopped being one to look forward to but we think the decline in quality happened somewhere around season two or three. By the end, we didn’t care enough about Sookie and her love life. In fact, she ended up with some faceless and nameless guy.
Dexter
This hurts us to write this because we LOVE Dexter. However, there is no denying that the last few seasons weren’t quite the brilliant writing we were used to. Don’t get us wrong, some episodes were really good but as a whole? Disappointing.
Season 4 with the Trinity killer was absolute perfection and we think that could be the reason why the latter seasons just fell flat. Couple that with Debs sudden weird obsession with her adoptive brother and Dexter’s complicated and boring love life – it just wasn’t the same.
The final scene of this show will go down as being one of the worst ends to a TV series. And we will never forgive them for that death. (Spoilers in the video below!)
Glee
Glee has always been cheesy but it’s used to be the cheesy show that you loved to watch. The whole premise was about a teacher who took a group of misfits and turned them into something brilliant. For three seasons, we followed the same group of kids through high school – watching them make mistakes and learn from them.
After season three, most of the kids graduated and it became a different show. We didn’t connect with the new people and the old characters didn’t seem so interesting when outside of high school.
Some people probably liked the change in direction/new cast members but we will always look back fondly on season 1-3.
