This weekend will mark the 51st annual BAFTA Television Awards, the most prestigious awards in British television and a major event in our calendar here at Electronic World! This year the ceremony is being held on Sunday 8th May at 7pm at the Royal Festival Hall in London. However, if you aren’t one of the lucky few able to nab tickets to the live event, never worry, the ceremony will be broadcast on BBC One from 8pm.
This year the awards will once again be hosted by presenter, Graham Norton with an opening performance by Elle King and an appearance by British singer-songwriter, Birdy later in the evening.
But now to the question on everyone’s lips, who is set to win? Nominees were announced back in March this year, but just to jog your memory we’ve put together a handy breakdown of who’s in the running, and a few of our favourites to receive the bronze mask this year!
As for Leading Actress, there is some stiff competition with Claire Foy going up against Suranne Jones for their roles in ‘Wolf Hall’ and ‘Doctor Foster’ respectively. Jones has had a lot of success already this season having won a number of awards for her role as the show’s title character, Dr Gemma Foster, and also happens to be our predicted win for this year’s BAFTA TV award too.
Also up in this category are Ruth Madeley for ‘Don’t Take My Baby’ and Sheridan Smith for ‘The C-Word’. This is Smith’s third nomination for a BAFTA TV award having won Best Actress back in 2013 for her role in “Mrs Briggs”.
