For the past 50 years, the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, in Las Vegas has been showcasing a multitude of consumer technology innovation that has excited both industries and consumers alike. The new year has brought television innovations that are sure to revolutionise how we see TVs.
The futuristic world we see in Sci-Fi films seems to be closer and closer!
Ground-breaking Sound Technology
In the past few decades, TVs have slimmed down considerably and 2017 is no different to this growing trend. Sony’s new Bravia A1 Series of OLED TVs was unveiled to tech lovers’ excitement. Its gorgeous picture image and Dolby Vision support is accompanied by its innovative sound system. Instead of having a separate or integrated soundbar, the Sony Bravia A1 Series uses its screen as a speaker. This technology, that Sony calls Acoustic Surface, means that it vibrates and sends sound directly to where you are.
New Technology – the QLED
QLED, Samsung’s new technology introduced at CES, represents an evolution to the brand’s Quantum Dot technology. It will provide an increase of both vibrancy and brightness of colours while maintaining the stunning, deep blacks. With 1,500 to 2,000 nits peak brightness, it’s far brighter than any other OLED TV. Available in flat and curved TV format, it connects to the One Connect box through a slim, optical cable.
Thinner TVs
LG’s OLED W is a new flagship TV with an extraordinary 2.7mm thickness. The wallpaper-like TV sticks to the wall through the use of magnets, almost at the same depth as the wall behind it. Available in 65” and 77” screen TVs, the LG OLED W is paired up with both a 4.2 channel Dolby Atmos soundbar and a media box, connected through the panel with a cable.
OLED is the New LED
In addition to unveiling the new LG OLED W, the brand has invested in updating its other models. Four new TVs, the B7, C7, E7, and G7, are being launched this year. True to what the brand is known for, LG’s OLED remain on the technology’s frontline. These new models showcase an increase of 25% brightness and the integration of a full range of HDR formats, such as Technicolor’s Advanced HDR, HDR 10, and Dolby Vision.
Similarly, Panasonic launched the Panasonic EZ1002 – an OLED TV that the brand says will be a 4K HDR master. It boasts a boost of brightness that allows for the contrast effects of HDR. This direct competition with LG’s OLED TVs might see further advancements to the technology sooner than we all expect.
