CES 2017 News & Highlights

The Consumer Electronics Show, more commonly known as CES, is an annual show that is organised by the Consumer Technology Association that takes place every January in Las Vegas. It is a show that highlights the best technological products to be manufactured within the past year.

This year has been a phenomenal year for electronics, especially from the technological giants such as Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic. We love everything related to TVs, so we’ve summed up everything that has occurred throughout this convention during the 5th and 8th of January.

LG Reveal Their Latest OLED TV

LG have been the kings at producing these new televisions; OLED is the latest line of display technologies that results in brighter, larger, and thinner televisions. OLED TVs were incredibly popular last year, especially with competing companies LG and Samsung battling against each other to produce the best OLED TV.

However, at the CES 2017, it was very clear that LG stole the show with their amazing new OLED TV; the LG Signature OLED W7. It is so stunning that it has been described as the “lightest, thinnest, and most beautiful television on the planet”.

Because of its OLED capabilities, it measures at a staggering 2.57mm, meaning that it truly acts as a ‘wallpaper television’. The television itself will also come in two different sizes: 65-inches and 75-inches, as well as featuring LG’s own custom software, webOS 3.5, which has been highly regarded as one of the best on the market.

There are still a couple of things that need to be confirmed, such as the price and the release date, but it will be brought to the UK markets sooner as opposed to later.

Nvidia Stepped Up Its Game

Everyone likes a comeback within the industry, and Nvidia definitely came back with a bang at this year’s CES convention. One product that Nvidia provide is an Android-powered Shield TV Box, which is able to stream online content to your TV, as well as having access to the latest 4K content on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Now, the newer Nvidia Shield boasts full 4K and HDR capabilities. In 2016, an update was available so that the device could stream YouTube content in 4K and Netflix content in HDR. However, now, it can provide built-in support for Netflix as well as adding Google Play Movies, Amazon Video, and is able to stream games, if you have a powerful PC, to the 4K list.

It’s also provided with a built-in Google Assistant, that is kitted out with traditional voice-based music control, as well as video playback. Because of all these new and exciting features, Nvidia made its mark at this year’s convention.

Sony Finally Joins the OLED Train!

At last, the time has finally come for Sony to join the list of companies manufacturing OLED televisions. At CES 2017, Sony announced that they will bring out their first ‘proper’ OLED TV, known as the AE1, or the A1 in the UK.

However, Sony’s OLED TV is slightly different from the competition; the AE1 has a unique way of producing sound. Traditional televisions, whether that be OLED TVs, LED, or even Smart TVs, contain either a pair of speakers or a soundbar. However, the AE1 actually vibrates the television screen, which produces corresponding sound waves; essentially, the sound literally comes from the screen.

Some people have said that it is one of the most exciting televisions to appear on the scene in 2017, and we can definitely see why!

Samsung’s QLED Range is Here!

You might be thinking “You’ve spelt OLED wrong!”, we assure you that we’re not; Samsung unveiled their latest class of televisions, known as QLED TVs. Samsung’s new class contains three televisions: the Q9F, the Q8C, and the Q&, which is available in flat and curved models.

So, what is a QLED TV? It stands for a Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode television, and it will be introduced to replace Samsung’s flagship slim TV, the Samsung Super UHD, or SUHD, range. Quantum dots are excellent for providing an excellent brightness, and they also provide brightness and colour to the display itself as opposed to it coming from an LED backlight.

This type of technology will revolutionise television displays, and it sets a fantastic benchmark for competitors to match; who know what we will see in future televisions.

This year’s CES 2017 convention has been amazing, and we are so excited to see these amazing products being distributed throughout the UK and global markets.
