Getting Ready For a Summer of Great Television

This summer’s sporting and regal events are set to be a great draw for the UK, and the rest of the world’s viewing pleasure. With quickly developing technology becoming readily available and increasingly cheap TVs, it is a great time to upgrade your television set to the latest technology. The London Olympic games, Euro 2012 and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and all set to draw millions of viewers who cannot make the events in person.

With High Definition (HD) broadcasting occurring for a few years now, there are more and more live and pre-recorded programs in HD and now moving onto the newer technology of 3D broadcasting.

During the last Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, HD technology was emerging into the mainstream. The games were covered fully in HD, but due to the relatively small amount of HD TVs in the world, it wasn’t viewed this way by many. Now, this technology is much more common place in the household and even on other devices such as mobile phones and hand held tablets; which means the London 2012 Olympic Games will be enjoyed by many more people in HD than the last outing.

In addition to full HD coverage, some of the events will be broadcast live in 3D for the first time for any Olympic Games. The BBC will broadcast the opening and closing ceremony, the 100 metre final and a highlights package each day in 3D on the BBC’s HD channel. For those wanting more, Sky and Virgin Media will also have extended coverage in 3D on their pay to view channels.

Another great sporting event in Europe that always gets high viewing figures is the European Football Championship, Euro 2012. This will also be broadcast in HD, for excellent viewing quality for football fans. Whilst not being broadcast in 3D, the coverage will still be excellent, with high capacity networks having been installed specifically for the events.

For those who want a break away from sport, or just to feel patriotic, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are going to pack out a great bank holiday weekend in early June. This will have excellent coverage from national television channels in HD and broadcast around the globe, in celebration of the Queen’s 60 year reign.

If you cannot be near your TV whilst the event of your choice is on, you can always opt for a newer, smart TV, allowing you to catch up on television through the internet, without the need to pre-record anything.

Samsung TVs are leading the way with interactive, smart TVs. These offer full connectivity from other media sources including external hard drives and the internet. Combined with home entertainment systems; music, movies and more can all be controlled and enjoyed to their fullest from one place.

With these excellent and historic events going on, but limited places to view in person, the best option is to purchase a new TV set and get an experience as near to the real thing as you can!
