Rumours about Apple getting into the television market have been flying about over the summer, with increasingly good displays on their iPhones and iPads, the trend was expected to continue onto bigger screens, especially after the launch of the Apple TV set top box.
Apple have said that they will not be launching a TV set anytime soon though. The information hasn’t been shouted about, so has remained fairly subdued. Brilliant timing on the part of Apple, who are riding high on headlines of sales figures from their latest iPhone incarnation.
Still, the world of LED TVs can rest slightly easier knowing that Apple are not joining in the competition just yet. When, or if, a TV set from Apple comes out, it will undoubtedly sell in the millions whatever it can do, mostly due to the hype around any Apple product launch (Justified or not, but that’s a discussion for another time!).
The delay has been caused by the complicated business that is the television industry. There are numerous parties involved who each want to come out on top of any launch. This has created friction between cable companies, existing manufacturers and Apple themselves.
According to inside sources, the company has been working on a television set for the past 6 years or so, during which time technology has advanced a lot, so anything now is probably very far from what was originally envisioned. No doubt this will not stop the rumour mill working, but we will have to wait longer than anticipated to see any results.
