4K TV; what was once a thing of dreams is now a widely available and fantastic technology. With four times the detail of HD TV, we are all rushing out to have 4K TVs in our homes. Along with the increase in this tech, the gaming industry has had to step up their game and make sure we can all play our favourite games on our very own big screen.
Gaming is, in fact, one of the most referenced reasons to get a 4K TV. With the PS4 Pro on the market, HDR Gaming and 4K video on the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, is it now time to upgrade your TV tech? But is it worth it? And where can you even find cheap 4K TVs?
When it comes to picking a decent TV, there are many factors to ponder over; colour accuracy, contrast, colour gamut, viewing angles, power utilisation, smart TV features, reflectance and much more.
However, since we are mainly concerned with the matter of an extreme gaming experience, it is more important that your TV has a low input latency, or lag.
In video games, the input lag is either the delay between the TV and monitor receiving the signal and the display on the screen or the delay between pressing the button and seeing the reaction on screen. Neither is good. You ideally want this to be 35ms or less while in 4K and at the best refresh rate possible (at least 120Hz) for the best experience.
While many older TVs struggled with the lag, the majority of the latest and greatest 4K TVs which we have in store at Electronic World don’t have a problem.
Other important factors to look out for include your refresh rate, colour, contrast, game mode and look out for the HDMI ports. And 3D Technology capabilities could be an added benefit!
What Consoles?
To take advantage of 4K content on your new 4K TV, you will, of course, need a console capable. Some consoles have just blatantly ignored this cool new tech such as the Nintendo Switch.
The Xbox One S, Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro support 4K though!
Xbox One S – The Xbox One can show games at 4K resolution, however, there’s some clever upscaling going on behind the scenes. It can’t support 4K ready games sadly, but if you have a super smart 4K TV your Xbox One will do a grand job of upscaling.
PS4 Pro – It gets even better here! – The Sony PS4 comes with full support for 4K, however, the games need to be specifically built for 4K. But don’t worry, because if the games aren’t 4K ready, your console will upscale it!
Xbox One X – This is the newest of all 3 consoles, and when creating they truly focused on graphics power. Combined with a 4K TV, you’ve got a fantastic combo which supports games built for 4K.
PC – If you’re serious about gaming, then a PC rig could be your number one choice. Just remember when it comes to PC gaming, your 4K compatibility needs to cover the game, the computer, and the monitor (or in this case your 4K TV). Don’t worry, because most of our TVs are compatible to use as a monitor – even better!
