Blu-ray technology is really taking off now, sales of discs and players have increased significantly in recent years and now Blu-Ray drives for PCs with writing capabilities are now available.
LG has recently unveiled their latest Blu-Ray writer, available for the surprisingly low price of £120. The fact that such an advanced piece of equipment is available for such a reasonable price is a sign of things to come and it seems that Blu-ray is finally on the right track to over taking DVD as the most popular format for storing video footage.
However, having a Blu-ray writer in your PC won’t just be useful for creating video discs, storing very large amounts of data of an easily portable format is now possible. With a capacity equivalent to over 60 CDs, Blu-ray is an excellent way to store very large and important files.
So, with this technology available in a drive suitable for use in your PC it seems like it won’t be much longer before Blu-Ray players with writing capabilities will be making their way into people’s living rooms throughout the country. There are plenty of cheap LCD TVs on the market that are fully HD enabled, so as the price of Blu-ray players and discs drops it seems highly likely that more people will be investing in them. Also, when people are eventually able to record high definition programming onto a Blu-Ray player’s hard drive or discs then the popularity of this medium is likely to explode.
