Boardwalk Empire
An American period drama set in Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Prohibition Era. It stars Steve Buscemi and was inspired by the book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City by Nelson Johnson, the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. Loaded with fine writing and great acting, it is well worth a watch.
Sherlock
This modern update finds the famous sleuth and his doctor partner solving crime in 21st century London. Doctor Watson is now a fairly young veteran of the Afghan war, and he is less adoring and more active. With inspired casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor Watson, you won’t fail to be enthralled.
Luther
A British psychological crime drama series starring Idris Elba as the title character Detective Chief Inspector John Luther. Luther is a near-genius murder detective but he can’t always save himself from the dangerous violence of his passions. Each episode will leave you wanting more as the plot develops. Sadly there won’t be a fourth series of Luther but there is a feature film in the pipeline.
