If you haven’t already started your Christmas shopping, now is the time to start making your list and checking it twice. If your friends and family love DVDs, you’ll have plenty to choose from in time for Christmas.
The BBC recently announced the rediscovery of two lost Dr Who stories, unseen in the UK since their original broadcast in 1967/68, and now found within an archive in Nigeria. Although they’re already available on iTunes, they’ll also soon come out on DVD and one of them, The Enemy of the World, will be released in plenty of time to be beneath the tree. The 50th Anniversary special, Day of the Doctor, which will be broadcast on the 23rd November, will also be on DVD in time for Christmas.
For television enthusiasts of all kinds, there are plenty of box sets and season collections to choose from; the complete collections of Merlin, Dexter, and the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad will all be available in time, and there will also be new season collection DVDs of popular programmes such as Downton Abbey, Top Gear, Pretty Little Liars and New Girl.
Comedy fans will be looking forward to the 18th November, as live DVDs from Eddie Izzard (Force Majeure), Bill Bailey (Qualmpeddlar), Jimmy Carr (Laughing and Joking), Sean Lock (Purple Van Man) and Ross Noble (Mindblender) are all released on that day.
There’s plenty for children and the young at heart too. The Disney Pixar Complete Collection is bound to be sought after, as it includes all the favourites with plenty of extras. It doesn’t include Disney’s Planes however, which wasn’t made by Pixar and comes out separately shortly after.
For those who love movies, the big summer hits will all make their way to DVD in time to make excellent Christmas gifts – Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, and The World’s End (the last part of the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy) to name just a few.
