Recycled Kids TV Shows

Trends and fashions tend to come and go as they please: if you’ve seen it once, you can be sure that at some point in the future you’ll see it again, only more up to date with the current technology, fabrics, methods and social acceptances.

3D TV, for example, first graced our TV screens in the 1950s, though technology wasn’t up to the standard we have today; it vanished back into the midst of the technological world before gingerly resurfacing again in the early 2000’s. Now we can’t walk down the main street without seeing the glory of the 3D viewing experience advertised on every corner. If TV can be recycled in this way, why not TV shows?

We’re sure you’ve had that lost love of your childhood, hanging around the back of your mind. That fleeting though of ‘wouldn’t it be lovely if such and such was back on the TV?’, or perhaps you’ve seen the cartoon characters this generation of children are watching and have thought ‘well what’s-its-name was far better than that!’

Well we’re pleased to let you know that your wait is over. In recent years we’ve switched on our gorgeous TV sets and discovered an array of reworked, recycled and reused ideas, concepts and characters for the younger generation. In fact, sometimes, nothing has changed about the TV show at all!

Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men

First hitting our screen to entertain a generation of children back in 1952, the mischievous flowerpot men was a highly popular black and white programme, innocent and funny as it followed the adventures of the flowerpot men around the back garden. Bill and Ben was brought back to life in 2001 for children to appreciate all over again. Unfortunately for its now adult audiences it turned out to be a slight disappointment, removing much of the strangeness, and disregarding how subtly twisted the plot line used to be.

Andy Pandy

We’re sure you must be able to remember Andy Pandy; if you don’t know the nursery rhyme then you might have watched this children’s TV show back in 1952. Following the story of Andy Pandy and his friends, this TV show was retransmitted in 2002-2003, digitally altered to include the full, bright colour and 3D cartooning to bring Andy and his friends into the twenty first century.

Clangers

The most recent recycled children’s TV show to grace our screens is the Clangers. These knitted moon mice grabbed the hearts and imaginations of many children when the show was first aired in 1969. Who could forget about the Soup Dragon, the Metal Rooster, Major Clanger and the moon made of cheese? Last year the Clangers made their reappearance on TV screens, once again capturing the imagination of children everywhere!
