This morning we all woke to the sad news that Sam Simon, co-creator of The Simpsons, has passed away at the age of 59. Sam Simon had been battling colon cancer and he will be sorely missed.
In celebration of this wonderful man’s life, we at Electronic World would like to take a look at some of his best work, so here we present to you the best moments of The Simpsons.
Homer in Space
Episode: Deep Space Homer (Season 5, Episode 15)
When Homer goes to space, he demonstrated exactly what would happen if the ‘average man’ experienced zero gravity. While you may cringe at his idiocy, you have to admit eating like that does look pretty cool; just watch out for the ant farm. This episode has a lot of great moments, including the parade for the carbon rod.
The Land of Chocolate
Episode: Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk (Season 3, Episode 11)
In this episode, we see what life would really be like if everything was made of chocolate. Watch as Homer frolics, consumes live chocolate animals and presses his face against the window of a chocolate shop. Mmmm, chocolate (drools).
Planet of the Apes: the Musical
Episode: A Fish Called Selma (Season 7, Episode 19)
This scene is incredibly popular and demonstrates just how clever Sam Simon and his co-workers could be. Be warned, once you hear this song it will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. This is also the best rendition of Planet of the Apes that you will ever see.
Boo-urns. Boo-urns.
Episode: A Star is Burns (Season 6, Episode 18)
Poor Smithers, he tries so hard. This scene again demonstrates the great writing featured in The Simpsons, as well as featuring one of the many great lines spoken by background character, Hans Moleman.
Me Fail English?
Episode: Lisa on Ice (Season 6, Episode 8)
Ralph Wiggum is one of the most quoted Simpsons characters, and this is just one of his many great lines. See also: ‘Go apple, go orange, go banana’ and ‘Super Nintendo Chalmers’. Ralph Wiggum has so many great moments, we simply couldn’t fit them all in.
Everything’s Coming Up Milhouse!
Episode: Mom and Pop Art (Season 10, Episode 19)
This line has become one that people quote every day, and is symbolic of Milhouse’s position as the loveable underdog. This line was repeated in a more recent episode, but the classic version is by far the best.
I am the Lizard Queen!
Episode: Selma’s Choice (Season 4, Episode 13)
Here we see a classic babysitting fail, in which Selma completely loses control of Lisa and Bart on a trip out. I think we’ve probably all had a moment where we feel like the lizard queen. This is also arguably one of the best lines that Lisa has ever had.
We hope you enjoyed looking back over the great work of Sam Simon, who passed away today. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
