World leading voice recognition technology firm Nuance has announced that Samsung’s latest top-end TVs are using it’s technologies. The world’s leading television manufacturer is leading the way with technology, with parts often being developed by other companies and then used under license to create the final product.
Voice technology has improved steadily over the years. Cheaper production and increased use has made it more and more popular, being in nearly all smart phones. Nuance are reputed to have powered Apple’s Siri format of voice recognition, although neither side has confirmed this. Nuance also created T9 predictive text technology, meaning it is used by, or at least known to, millions of users worldwide. These technologies and others mean Nuance is a massive player in future technologies, even though very few people will have heard of them.
The inclusion into the Samsung TV line adds an extra level of control to their new smart TVs. On the appropriate models, people are able to change channels, volumes, search for content online, use Skype with others and many more functions, which are continually being updated.
The technology has already being implemented into various markets, such as mobile phones and cars, but with increased usage comes progression. New versions can handle colloquialisms and accents to still function properly, without the need to speak slowly and clearly with the older versions.
At the moment, the technology is only on the top end models and can be rather costly, but the prospect of voice control being in many homes in the near future is exciting.
