Samsung was the leading brand in the month of February of 2011 in terms of the amount of LCD televisions distributed reports market research firm DisplayBank.
However the overall number of LCD televisions sold is not expected to reach the combined goals set by HDTV manufacturers. This is probably due to the decreased demand in North America and European countries. Their was also a decline in the number of units manufactured across the board due to Chinese New Year celebrations leading to fewer days of working production.
Each month, DisplayBank releases its “Monthly FPD TV Shipment Data” regarding the number of televisions distributed for the month. The company predicts that the distribution of LCD TVs globally will grow by 6% year by year to 48 million from 44million in the first quarter of 2011. This is around 10%-15% lower than the increase forecasted in many companies business plans at the beginning of the year.
Korean conglomerate Samsung Electronics led the field in terms of LCD TVs for February, be they LED back-lit or CCFL. The corporation had a 20.5% share of the total LCD TV market, followed by their close rival LG Electronics who had 15.8% and Japanese giant Sony with 9.8%. The firm also took 25% of the LED TV market, with LG again having the second largest share at 14.9%.
The ratio of LED back-lit televisions is rising, and should hit 32.1% for quarter 1 of 2011, with many brands increasing the proportion of their products with LED back-lighting. US based manufacturer Vizio leads the way with 52.7% of their flat screen HDTVs being shipped as LED back-lit.
