Sony’s New Range of TVs to Play PS3 Games

Sony has announced the release of their new line of Bravia 4K ultra HD televisions that are set to hit the shops in June. The range includes 3 new series and 9 new 4K TV model devices, and they are the first of their kind to be able to stream Playstation 3 games through the modern technologies of Playstation Now. Playstation Now debuted in January, providing the first ever streaming game service on consoles powered by Sony’s advanced cloud-based technology. Playstation Now, a subscription service, grants gamers access to Playstation’s most popular games with a wide variety of game choices available for streaming. The new Bravia 4K devices are said to retail between £1,250 – £15,000, and you will only need to connect a Dualshock 3 controller in order to play the streamed games via the TV set.

In order to fully appreciate Playstation Now’s full potential, gamers are encouraged to play on a 5Mbps broadband connection for the perfect game play scenario; however, slower connections will be supported, but may experience compression and other technical difficulties. 5Mbps is lower than the national average of most in-home broadband packages, so gamers should not experience too many problems and can enjoy the state-of-the-art gaming experience from the comfort of their favourite gaming chair.

There are sure to be many advantages with such technological improvements; gamers can try out and ‘rent’ numerous games for a fraction of the hard-copy price to encourage variation between their normal gaming tastes. Playstation Now is a fantastic concept for travelling video-game fanatics who tend to go to a friend’s house to play, as it means they no longer have to carry discs to and from destinations and can simply log in on arrival to access their game collection.

Some disadvantages to this modern take on gaming may be that some people enjoy the satisfaction of collecting and building up a hard-copy game library, as this allows them to complete games in their own time and at their own speed. The length of rental time for Playstation Now has not yet been made clear, so it could actually result in excess costs depending on the gamer’s ability to complete the rental. Some people may not have access to an internet connection and may struggle to keep connected with Playstation updates and progressions; they will also need to have the compatible devices in order to take full advantage of these exciting discoveries.

Sadly, gone are the days of the PS1 and PS2, but it is not yet clear whether these new state-of-the-art technologies will in fact be as successful and appreciated as the trusty old consoles we have all known and loved. If you are not in a position to upgrade your console or just prefer to play games in the good old fashioned way though, don’t worry, as here at Electronic World, we stock a wide range of cheap Sony TVs for your gaming pleasure.
