3D movies can provide some of the best and most exciting movie watching experiences yet. By pulling you right into the action, a 3D movie can have a sense of realism that other movies just don’t, even if the plot of the movie is fantastical and completely unrealistic, whether it’s a blockbuster or not!
We know that some movies are better suited to the 3D format than others, and some are absolutely perfect, so which movies should you be investing in if you own a 3D television?
#1 – Avatar (2009)
Of course, James Cameron’s Avatar had to be on this list. The incredible colours and landscapes of the fictional world of Pandora were made to be viewed in 3D. In fact, James Cameron wanted to make the movie back in the mid-90s, but the technology needed to achieve his vision just wasn’t available yet. The movie is packed with action as well as breath-taking scenes full of colour.
The story of Alice and the friends she meets in Wonderland has kept audiences captivated for years. Tim Burton’s telling of the story captured the fantastical and ridiculous elements of the tale, producing a visually stunning movie which makes it perfect for the 3D format. Whether it’s the grin of the Cheshire cat, looming out of the scream or Alice’s tumble through the rabbit hole, there are countless scenes that are improved by being viewed in 3D.
Life of Pi is the powerful and beautiful tale of Pi Patel, a young man who is shipwrecked along with a small collection of animals from his father’s zoo. His relationship with Richard Parker, the tiger, is moving, and the visual effects of the ocean around them are incredible. There is one scene in particular which features a blue whale breaking the water surface and jumping into the air, which makes for an awesome 3D experience.
While this film may not actually fall into the horror genre, it can be a pretty scary film to watch! When a space shuttle is destroyed, two astronauts are left stranded in space, tethered to nothing but each other. The shots of space, as well as the dramatic and nail-biting scenes, create an exciting movie experience which is best viewed in 3D.
Up has become something of a cult classic since its release, and it’s easy to understand why. With everything from adventure to comedy and even sorrow, this is a must-watch film that you have to see if you haven’t already, and make sure to catch it in 3D.
