TV technology is constantly changing nowadays; just when we think we understand its limits, what makes a great trend and which TV model is definitively the best, it all changes with the latest innovations. In this article, we are looking at the most impressive (and unbelievable) advances in TV technology in 2019 – including those yet to hit the high street!
THE WALL
Do you believe that you have the latest model in TV fashion? Think again, because Sony have announced their new 16K TV, lovingly referred to as The Wall. While the rest of the competition is still marvelling at the recent high street appearance of 8K TVs, Sony have revealed the future of television.
8K is known for providing a resolution so detailed that the image cannot be distinguished from reality by the human brain, ensuring smoother visual entertainment than ever before. One can only imagine the perfection that a 16K quality screen could deliver.
Currently, there is little in place to scale down this television from the impressive 219-inch model that has been developed, which means that there is little chance that we will see this model in homes anytime soon. On the other hand, The Wall could be the future of cinematic entertainment, making it a very important development that will change our perceptions of cinema for the better.
THE ROLED
Pronounced ‘the roh-led’, this super smart TV is also known more officially as the LG 65” OLED TV Type R. This screen is a real game changer for interior design more than anything because it means that homeowners can now enjoy huge displays without having to consider the space that those screens will fill.
The ‘R’ stands for roll-up, which, unbelievable though it may be, refers to the screen’s ability to literally roll away into a thin and long coffee table. It is the answer to many designers’ beliefs that a bulky TV on standby detracts from a room’s aesthetic.
For example, we’ve all seen wallpaper TVs which display an image (or series of images) whilst the television isn’t in use. This allows the television to maintain functionality within the home even when it is not being used, by showing a favourite painting, acting as a slideshow of your favourite family photos, or merely by blending in with the wall behind it so as not to detract from the general aesthetic of the room.
The Roled, by contrast, is the eco-friendly alternative. By hiding the screen entirely, the TV has no impact on the room’s design when not in use, which is perfect for anyone looking to create a minimalist theme in their living room or bedroom.
THE LASER TV
Sony have been questioning the limits of picture quality, LG have been thinking about the television’s function in the larger home, so what have their competitors been doing to keep up with these innovations? Welcome to Hisense’s Laser TV which completely changes current understandings of television technology.
The laser TV – Hisense 100LDA – functions via projector, which means ultra-thin, ultra-light screens; the height of style. Achieve wall-mounted 100” screens with none of the fuss and all of the immersion.
Being a projection, you might think this TV would lack picture quality but, in reality, it can compete with some of the best screens currently available on the high street; offering 4K Ultra HD resolutions, the laser TV provides depth, colour and an overall gorgeous experience. FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS UNDERWAY
The three televisions discussed in this article are the most innovative to be introduced in 2019, but there are plenty of other designs and ideas being tested that could be the future of TV trends.
