At the end of last year and beginning of this year, we started making some predictions based on what we expected to see in 2017. Some of these were about the TV shows that we expected to take off in the following months, others about new TV technologies that we’re excited to see rise in popularity. So, now that we are nearly halfway through the year, let’s take a look at how our predictions are coming along!

Technology Predictions for 2017
Virtual Reality Cinemas Becoming the Norm
Back in December 2016, we made a prediction that virtual reality cinemas would become the latest, most popular cinematic experience. While virtual reality is clearly growing in popularity in the gaming world, we think that it might take a little bit longer for the popularity to be mirrored in the film industry.
There are VR cinemas in Amsterdam and Melbourne but we’re still waiting for a UK virtual reality cinematic experience. If all goes well with the existing cinemas, perhaps we’ll get to experience it, here in the UK. We’re still hopeful that this prediction will come true, but we may have to wait a little longer than we first expected.
New Technology – The QLED
Back in January, we wrote about the new QLED TVs from Samsung. These televisions use Quantum Dot technology which further improves the viewing experience. These televisions are now on sale to the general public, but you can expect to pay close to £2,000 and more for it. While it looks like this technology could prove to be very popular, while they come with such a huge price tag attached, they are unlikely to become a staple of every home. We may need to wait for another year or two before these televisions become more affordable.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
The 2017 Netflix series may have seemed like something of a risk considering the previous film adaptation didn’t quite make the impact that was expected. Thankfully, this star-studded Netflix adaptation has made up for a lot of the disappointment caused by the Jim Carey film.
In fact, the reception has been so positive, Netflix has confirmed that production for season two is now underway. We know that there will be 10 episodes which will cover the next five books in the series, The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital, and The Carnivorous Carnival.
While we’re not looking into new technologies, we are busy providing you with televisions at great prices!
