My Cart - Some TV shows just don’t know when to stop pumping out tired storylines, so sometimes their loyal audience is left with is finding a diamond among the rough of remaining episodes. As most philosophers, your mum or TV fanatics will tell you, you should always quit while you’re ahead.
Following on from our first look at TV shows that should have ended sooner, we’ll be looking at a few more series that just went on far too long. Not necessarily because remaining episodes were bad, but because they were no longer the fresh ideas that we first feel in love with them for.
How I Met Your Mother
The unique format of HIMYM caused it to become a firm favourite of many avid TV watchers both in the UK and around the world. Their clever use of highly accurate and consistent flashbacks with witty fast forwards allowed for a comprehensive tale about what man’s search for love.
However, the show was never supposed to be about the mother, it was about how Ted met her. Dragging out another tired season about their time together and episodes where she featured meant that the whole tale was lost. When the show finally ended with him winning over Robin, after the show’s creators spent nine seasons convincing us otherwise, just seemed a little desperate.
We much prefer the alternate ending.
Pretty Little Liars
As with How I Met Your Mother, this show has managed to (barely) survive for so long because there’s a promise of finding out whom an elusive character is at the end of it.
However, in the case of Pretty Little Liars they seem to think they’ve discovered who ‘A’ is at the end of the episode. It got to the point that when the bad guy was revealed no-one was sure if they had actually witnessed the big reveal.
Now they are planning on doing an extra season or two about life after high school. This show should have ended long ago!
Misfits
After Nathan left the show, nothing was quite the same. Although it was still funny, dry and a little bit gritty, it just seemed like the show had gone on for too long.
When someone’s super power is moving milk, you really know that the producers are grasping at straws.
