You should also keep in mind whether you are going to invest in a VR headset as this will dramatically change your opinions on seating, too. VR sets will cause users to prioritise floor space, meaning that large heavy objects like sofas could quickly become an eye sore.
Distance from the TV
Once you have an idea about your seating, you need to think about where it all goes in relation to the television. Scientifically, there are optimum distances to seat your guests from the screen and maximum viewing angles to be considered (no-one wants to be trying to win at Smash Bros seated askance from the screen).

If you’re considering a wall-mounted screen, cord covers are a must. Paint over the plastic so that it blends in with the rest of your room’s colours once assembled. Alternatively, if you’re balancing your television atop low shelves containing your consoles, controllers and games, cord hooks can stick to the back of furniture to ensure that your wires stay in place – and hidden.
If you’re trailing a long ethernet cable through this room, this will be something to think about early on. You might want to consider hiding the cable below the carpet where it won’t become a trip hazard. Alternatively, pinning it to the skirting boards could be a solution.
On the other hand, a huge TV table filled to the brim with consoles and games can look bulky. One way to avoid this problem is to avoid overfilling these shelves, but the other is to avoid using them for anything other than your consoles. By storing your games and controllers elsewhere, you will be ensuring that the area around your screen isn’t distracting in any way.
You might choose to repurpose a bookshelf for storing discs and DVDs, but controllers can be a little harder to store safely and neatly. Recently, we’ve seen a lot of individuals using wall mounted pinboards to make their controllers appear almost as if they are floating.
Aesthetic

Alongside the visual beauty of your room, you should consider what other items will make your gaming experience with friends all the smoother. Will you use collapsible tables for snacks, or fill sofa pockets with popcorn? What smart functional objects can you work into your current floorplan?
