With the football season coming to an end for another season, it’s not until we will all have to find something else to fill our weekday evenings and weekends.
Here at Electronic World, we’ve been thinking about some of best sports movies and TV shows that have ever aired. There is an endless selection to choose from and watch at home, which should keep you busy throughout the next few months.
Here is a list of some of our favourites – do they match yours?
The Blind Side (2009)
This biographical sports drama centres around Michael Oher, an American Football star who plays in the NFL. The film is based on a true story and follows Oher from his tough upbringing and adoption, to his rise to the one of the highest prospects in college football. This led to him becoming a professional NFL player. Winning many awards, including an Oscar for actress Sandra Bullock, this is a great film to watch during the sport hiatus.
The Fighter (2010)
The Fighter is another biographical sports drama film featuring an all-star cast, including Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, and Amy Adams. The film centres around Micky Ward, a professional boxer, and the whirlwind relationship he has with his family.
With his troubled brothers help, Micky then finds himself a contender for a world title, and he and his family earn a shot at redemption. This film was nominated for seven academy awards.
The League (2009 – 2015)
This is a more up-beat take on the sports sector. This comedy follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who care deeply about each other – so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each other’s lives miserable.
Friday Night Lights (2006 – 2011)
This drama series features around a high school football team set in Dillon, a close-knit community in rural Texas. Not only does this series feature around sport, but it also covers other issues including family values, school funding, racism, and a lack of economic opportunities. The TV show never received high ratings whilst it aired, but it did receive critical acclaim and still has a large fan base today!
